Back To The Frozen Sky !!!

FROZEN SKY 2 FINAL JPGThis sequel is way overdue.  Life has interceded, but I’ve been dying to return to the ice… dying, that is, like someone with a sunfish eating their face!  Bwah ha ha.

Who likes the killer artwork by Jacob Charles Dietz?  Me me me me me.

I’ll let the jacket copy speak for itself:

SUNFISH VS HUMAN

A quake in the ice nearly kills Alexis Vonderach, setting off new confrontations with the blind alien tribes of Europa. In the weeks since First Contact, her crew has learned their bizarre language… but the sunfish are as violent as their world…  Betrayed is a short 200 page sequel to The Frozen Sky by the international bestselling author of Plague Year.

Bonus material includes:
* ESA maps and schematics.
* Future history of the year 2113.
* The original short story of “Interrupt.”

Please note that I went out of my way to clarify this is a short novel rather than a George R.R. Martin-sized door stopper.  Why?  Because as I wrote it, I realized Betrayed is a complete story unto itself and makes a fine new entry in what I’m calling “the Europa series.”  That’s right.  Series.  I’m working on Frozen Sky 3 as we speak.

Meanwhile there are fun promos coming up on io9 and SF Signal, including two guest blogs detailing my adventures on the 21st Century writing scene.  I’ll post reminders here as soon as they post there.

Because I’m a devilish SOB and this is partly the subject of one of those guest blogs, I’d also like to go on record RIGHT NOW as predicting that Frozen Sky 2: Betrayed will gather at least ten negative reader reviews from grumpy or confused individuals who’ll so cleverly use the word “betrayed” in their review titles.  Why you ask again?  Because snarky snarkalness is part of the E-Age.

Didn’t realize a title with the number 2 in it was a sequel?  Thought the price of a cup of coffee was too high for a few hours of entertainment?  Got a political axe to grind with my fictional characters in a dark sci fi future?  Aha ha ha ha.  Lunatic fringe, I know you’re out there.

My hope is anyone who liked the original Frozen Sky will enjoy Vonnie’s next adventure, too.  Holy cheeseballs wrapped in bacon, this book was fun to write!!

It’s currently available on Kindle and Nook.  Kobo and iTunes should be close behind.  Smashwords is up.  Oyster, Flipkart, Scribd, it’s all coming down like freaky aliens in the dark…

Catching up in 2014

Holy godzillas, dude! It’s hard to believe I haven’t blogged since October… but more and more, I find myself letting the social media fall to the wayside. Partly that’s because I spend all day in front of a computer, so more computer isn’t too exciting.  Mostly it’s to make time for the flesh-and-blood relationships in my life. In the rare spare minutes of our busy schedules, I’d much rather talk to my wife or my friends than hang out on FB.  I realize that makes me sound crazy. Like a fox.   😉

Last year was a very good year, and I hope to keep my nose to the grind throughout 2014 to make it a good year, too.

In the meantime, it looks like my guest blog for SF Signal in February made their top ten most viewed for 2013, which is fun and cool.  In case you missed it, here’s “Jeff Carlson on the E-Report” discussing my early experiences with The Frozen Sky.

More recently, the good folks at Cult Pop also asked me to return for an interview re: Interrupt.  bottleIt’s here.

As usual, I may have too much coffee, so buckle in and brace yourself for Mr. Motor Mouth.  Lots of stuff pouring out of my brain in a hurry.  That’s what you get in a Carlson interview, ha ha.

More soon.

Big news on the horizon!

Believe It Or Not, I’m Still Alive…

…and I’ve been meaning to post an insightful and well-considered blog about books like The Clan of The Cave BearSubterranean, Darwin’s Radio, and the classic novella Inconstant Moon, all of which have surely been sloshing around inside my brain for years.

No question Inconstant Moon was partly my inspiration for the original short story of Interrupt, and I read and re-read the “Earth’s Children” novels when I was a boy.  Why my parents let me read Cave Bear and Valley of Horses when I was ten is another question.  But I’ve been a busy little duck this week, like last week and the week before, working on a new novel (a new novel!), so my insightful and well-considered blog will have to wait another week-ish.

My assumption is you’d rather have been writing books than writing blogs, yes?
