Concept art for Colony High
This is Jeff's working sketch for Colony High, his collaboration with David Brin, in which a small disk of land is ripped out of downtown Twenty-Nine Palms, California, and transported to a harsh, alien world... a world where other intelligent races have been dumped as well! As the novel progressed, changes were scribbled into the map and, in fact, some buildings and the disk itself were completely realigned.
Concept art for Plague War
For the Plague novels, Jeff originally suggested these titles as a count-down through the trilogy: Plague Year, War Day, and Final Hour. His publisher balked, however, because of the Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka collaboration entitled Warday: And The Journey Onward, a classic, bestselling novel which also featured nuclear strikes on North America.
Authors are not typically consulted for cover art, but here, if you click on the image to the left, you can see Jeff's concept sketch and notes for Plague War, which artists Judith Murello and Eric Williams vastly improved, turning it into the million dollar cover that's actually on the book!
